R2A Broth (1X) is a low-nutrient liquid medium for the cultivation and enumeration of heterotrophic bacteria from treated potable water and other environmentally derived samples. A balanced mixture of peptides and free amino acids with yeast extract, pyruvate, glucose, phosphate buffer, and magnesium supports recovery of stressed or slow-growing organisms under reduced-nutrient conditions.

  • 0.025% Proteose Peptone #3
  • 0.025% Tryptone
  • 0.05% Casamino Acids
  • 0.05% Yeast Extract
  • 0.03% Sodium Pyruvate
  • 0.05% Glucose
  • 0.03% Potassium Phosphate Dibasic
  • 0.005% Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate
  • Heterotrophic Bacterial Enumeration (HPC): Used for counting heterotrophic bacteria in potable, bottled, and distribution system waters via MPN and pre-enrichment workflows.

  • Recovery of Stressed/Chlorinated Bacteria: Promotes resuscitation of disinfectant-stressed organisms from treated water and distribution systems.

  • Cultivation of Oligotrophic Environmental Isolates: Supports slow-growing, low-nutrient bacteria commonly found in drinking water and biofilms.

  • Water System Environmental Monitoring: Applied in routine monitoring of municipal, pharmaceutical, dialysis, and food/beverage water systems.

  • Biofilm Assessment: Used to cultivate biofilm-associated organisms from pipes, tanks, and equipment surfaces.

  • Sterility and Microbial Limits Testing of Waters: Employed for testing purified water and related process waters where low-nutrient recovery is required.

  • Disinfection and Process Validation Studies: Evaluates efficacy of sanitizers and treatment processes by enabling recovery of injured cells.

  • Isolation and Maintenance of Environmental Isolates: For subculture, propagation, and short-term maintenance of recovered drinking-water bacteria (e.g., Pseudomonas, Sphingomonas, Flavobacterium, Acinetobacter, Burkholderia).

  • pH: 7.20 ± 0.10
