Our Story

Our Company History

Founded by Genentech scientist Ted Davis in Half Moon Bay, California, Teknova was established with the goal of helping scientists achieve breakthroughs faster by making custom solutions as efficient and reliable as off-the-shelf alternatives.

Beginning with custom plates, we rethought every stage of production, support, and delivery to better serve the needs of our customers. We designed a modular manufacturing platform that can be quickly reconfigured to create complex custom products. This innovative approach gives us the flexibility, precision, and speed we need to help our customers keep pace with new medical developments. We now provide end-to-end solutions across the life sciences industry, ranging from cell and gene therapy to molecular diagnostics and synthetic biology.

With comprehensive support and expertise offered by our team of scientists and engineers, everything we do is designed to efficiently manufacture and deliver the foundational ingredients for the discovery and commercialization of novel therapies.

Investing in your successs

Discover our new, state-of-the-art facilities

Over the past few years, we have increased our footprint in Hollister, California, to over 200,000 square feet, adding manufacturing space, cleanrooms, and state-of-the-art equipment.

Contributing to our community

We’re committed to taking care of our communities and our planet. We work to find innovative ways to reduce waste, share our research with the wider life sciences industry, and support local nonprofits.

PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

Innovating for a more
sustainable future

Our engineers and quality control experts are working together to discover ways to safely bring
more sustainable practices to the life sciences industry.

Reuse program

To help reduce waste, we are developing recycling and quality control protocols for a reuse program that we plan to pilot in the Bay Area in 2024.

Design solutions

We are re-engineering our packaging formats to reduce our environmental impact. We are exploring a bottle design that uses 35–40 percent less plastic and a durable alternative to single-use cardboard shipping boxes that can be reused from 30–70 times.

Green Business

In May 2022, Teknova was certified as a Green Business by the California Green Business Network. To reach this goal, we evaluated our business practices, including energy use, solid waste, wastewater, community involvement, pollution prevention, and transportation. The waste management policies we’ve implemented have increased our waste diversion by 75 percent.

Sharing our science

Our Teknova Talks series is dedicated to sharing our team’s discoveries with the wider scientific community. By openly sharing our findings, we hope to bring scientists closer to the big breakthroughs that can improve health outcomes for millions of people.
