Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) is an anionic surfactant that is one of the most commonly used detergents in protein purification and electrophoretic separation of proteins and lipids. It is often used as an adjuvant in lysing cells during DNA extraction and as a protein denaturing agent in SDS-PAGE.
