Tryptic Soy Agar Plates with Chloramphenicol-3 is a nutrient-rich agar medium that supports the growth and selection of chloramphenicol-resistant bacteria, including E. coli. The combination of enzymatic digests of casein and soybean meal provides amino acids and peptides, and sodium chloride maintains appropriate osmotic balance for microbial cultivation.

Incorporation of 3 µg/mL chloramphenicol enables selection of strains or plasmid-bearing transformants carrying chloramphenicol resistance markers, while the agar solidifying agent provides a stable surface for colony isolation and routine microbiological workflows.

  • 1.5% Tryptone
  • 0.5% Soytone
  • 0.5% Sodium Chloride
  • 1.5% Agar
  • 3µg/mL Chloramphenicol
  • Selection of Chloramphenicol-Resistant Bacteria: Isolation and maintenance of strains harboring chloramphenicol-resistance markers (e.g., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa).

  • Plasmid Maintenance: Propagation of bacteria carrying chloramphenicol-selectable plasmids for cloning and recombinant protein workflows.

  • Environmental and Water Testing: Enumeration of heterotrophic bacteria under chloramphenicol pressure to assess antibiotic-resistant subpopulations.

  • Microbiome and Resistome Studies: Recovery of chloramphenicol-tolerant colonies from complex samples for downstream identification and profiling.

  • Bioprocess Monitoring: In-process control to detect chloramphenicol-resistant contaminants in fermentation and cell culture facilities.

  • Clinical and Food Microbiology Surveillance: Screening of samples for chloramphenicol-resistant bacteria to inform hygiene and safety programs.

  • Strain Banking: Routine culture and storage of chloramphenicol-resistant reference strains (e.g., Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecalis).

  • General-Purpose Cultivation with Selective Pressure: Nutrient-rich TSA base (1.5% Tryptone, 0.5% Soytone, 0.5% Sodium Chloride, 1.5% Agar) supplemented with 3 µg/mL chloramphenicol for robust growth and selection.

  • Mixed-Culture Isolation: Suppression of chloramphenicol-sensitive background flora to facilitate recovery of target resistant colonies.

  • Quality Control and Method Validation: Media suitability and growth promotion testing using chloramphenicol-resistant controls.
