Fluid A is a peptone-based diluent used for preparing test portions and serial dilutions in microbiological analysis of foods, dairy products, water, and environmental samples. It is formulated to maintain microbial cell integrity and viability during sample handling without promoting growth.

Typical applications include dilution and rinsing steps prior to enumeration or detection of organisms such as Escherichia coli, coliforms, Enterobacteriaceae, and Salmonella on appropriate selective or non-selective media. It is suitable for swab and rinse sampling of equipment surfaces and containers, and for use in workflows employing plate counts, most probable number procedures, and membrane filtration.

  • 0.1% Meat Peptone
  • Microbial Limits Testing (USP): Used as a diluent/rinse in USP <61>/<62> microbial enumeration methods for nonsterile products, supporting recovery of organisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Membrane Filtration Rinsing: Serves as a sterile rinse to wash filters during bioburden and water testing, minimizing cell stress and carryover to improve recovery of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Sample Preparation and Dilution: Functions as an isotonic, low-nutrient diluent for homogenization and serial dilutions prior to plate counts of product, environmental, and water samples.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Employed as a rinse/extraction medium for swabs and contact plates from surfaces and equipment to enumerate organisms like Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis.

  • Bioburden Testing: Used to recover and quantify microbial load from raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods without promoting overgrowth.

  • Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Testing: Applied as a neutral diluent for product testing workflows to assess absence/presence of objectionable organisms including Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Food and Beverage Microbiology: Utilized as a nonselective diluent for aerobic plate counts and sample rinses to maintain viability of stressed cells.

  • Equipment and Container Rinses: Used as a sterile rinse fluid to collect residues and microorganisms from process equipment and packaging for downstream culture-based enumeration.

  • pH: 7.10 ± 0.20
