10% (v/v) Antifoam 204 is a silicone-based antifoam emulsion prepared at a defined working concentration for laboratory and bioprocess applications. It is used to control foam generated by agitation and aeration in culture media, feed solutions, and bioreactor systems.

Common use cases include microbial fermentation with E. coli, yeast cultivation, and clarification or purification steps where foam can interfere with liquid handling and process consistency.

  • 10% (v/v) Antifoam 204
  • Microbial Fermentation: Suppresses foam in aerobic cultures (e.g., Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, yeasts) during shake flasks and bioreactors.

  • Mammalian Cell Culture: Controls foaming in CHO/HEK suspension cultures during sparging and agitation to protect cell viability.

  • Bioreactor Operations: Foam control during inoculation, fed-batch additions, aeration, and scale-up runs.

  • Media and Buffer Preparation: Prevents boil-over and excessive foaming during mixing and sterilization (including autoclaving).

  • Protein Expression: Reduces foam in high-aeration expression systems (e.g., Escherichia coli) to maintain consistent oxygen transfer.

  • Downstream Processing: Minimizes foam during harvest, clarification, TFF, and chromatography system operation.

  • Agitated Mixing and Sparging: Decreases surface foam in tanks and carboys during vigorous mixing and gas introduction.

  • Vaccine and Biologic Production: Maintains process stability by limiting foam in upstream and intermediate steps.

  • Waste and Effluent Lines: Controls foam in drain traps and waste carboys connected to fermenters.

  • Automated Liquid Handling: Improves pipetting accuracy by reducing bubble formation in foaming solutions.
