Agar, Molecular Biology Grade is a purified gelling agent used to solidify microbiological and molecular biology media. It yields firm, clear gels with commonly used media components and buffers across typical pH and salt conditions.

Suitable for preparing selective or indicator plates for organisms including E. coli, yeast, and fungi, and for workflows where nuclease contamination is undesirable. Sterilizable by autoclaving and compatible with antibiotics, dyes, and supplements used in cloning and screening protocols.

  • Agar
  • Molecular Biology Grade
  • Microbial Culture Media Solidification: Solidifies media (e.g., LB, TSA) for routine growth and isolation of Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Selective and Differential Media Preparation: Enables antibiotic selection and chromogenic/indicator plates for strain screening and phenotype differentiation.

  • Bacterial Cloning and Selection Plates: Used for transformation recovery and selection (e.g., plasmid/antibiotic markers, blue/white screening) in E. coli.

  • Phage Plaque Assays (Top Agar Overlays): Forms soft top agar for bacteriophage propagation and plaque formation on bacterial lawns.

  • Motility and Soft Agar Assays: Low-percentage agar supports bacterial motility and chemotaxis testing.

  • Colony Isolation, Replica Plating, and Picking: Provides firm, consistent surfaces for streaking, grid replica plating, and automated colony picking.

  • Microbial Enumeration (Spread/Pour Plates): Used for CFU counting, environmental monitoring, and bioburden testing.

  • Strain Maintenance (Agar Slants and Plates): Supports long-term storage and routine subculture of lab strains.

  • Yeast and Fungal Culture Plates: Solidifies YPD and other media for routine yeast and mold cultivation.

  • Plant Tissue Culture Gelling Agent: Serves as an inert gelling matrix for plant micropropagation media.
