35 Bordet Gengou Agar Plates with 15% Sheep Blood are an enriched, selective medium used for the isolation and cultivation of Bordetella species, including Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis, from clinical specimens.

The 15% defibrinated sheep blood provides additional growth factors and aids visualization of hemolysis and characteristic colony morphology.

  • 35 Bordet Gengou Base
  • 15.0% Defibrinated sheep's blood
  • Primary Isolation of Bordetella spp.: Recovery and cultivation of Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, and Bordetella bronchiseptica from clinical specimens (e.g., nasopharyngeal swabs).

  • Colony Morphology and Hemolysis Assessment: Visualization of characteristic “mercury-drop” colonies and hemolytic patterns for phenotypic identification of Bordetella spp.

  • Diagnostic “Cough Plate” Method: Direct plating for suspected pertussis cases to facilitate rapid culture of Bordetella pertussis.

  • Subculture and Maintenance: Propagation and maintenance of virulent Phase I Bordetella isolates for research and reference work.

  • Antimicrobial Phenotyping: Growth-based assessment and screening of Bordetella spp. responses to antimicrobial agents (where applicable protocols exist).

  • Quality Control with Reference Strains: Performance verification using known Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, and Bordetella bronchiseptica controls.

  • Colony Enumeration and Purification: Isolation of pure cultures and CFU counting from mixed clinical samples containing Bordetella spp.
