50 mM Glycine, pH 9.5 is an aqueous glycine buffer that provides mildly alkaline conditions suitable for biochemical and molecular biology workflows. Glycine at this concentration offers buffering capacity near its pKa2, helping to maintain pH during sample preparation and processing.

Applications include use in protein electrophoresis and blotting systems, quenching of aldehyde-based fixatives, pH adjustment of reaction mixtures, dilution of biomolecules, and conditioning of laboratory equipment and media. Store tightly closed to minimize CO2 uptake and inspect pH before critical applications.

  • 50mM Glycine
  • Environmental Microbiology Elution: 50 mM Glycine, pH 9.5 is used to elute viruses and microbes from filters, swabs, and surfaces prior to neutralization and downstream detection.

  • Food and Surface Recovery Studies: Employed to detach and recover organisms such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella from foods and contact materials for enumeration or PCR.

  • Alkaline Phosphatase Assays: Provides an optimal alkaline buffer (50 mM Glycine, pH 9.5) for AP activity measurements and ELISA substrate development.

  • Protein Labeling/Coupling Reactions: Supplies alkaline conditions that support amine-reactive chemistries (e.g., NHS-ester labeling) while maintaining low ionic strength.

  • Anion-Exchange Chromatography: Used as an alkaline buffer for equilibration or elution steps where elevated pH improves protein recovery or resolution.

  • General Alkaline Buffering: Applied as a sterile 50 mM Glycine buffer at pH 9.5 for preparing samples and reagents requiring stable basic conditions.
