1N Sodium Hydroxide is a standardized alkaline solution for laboratory use in acid–base titrations, pH adjustment of buffers and microbiological media, and neutralization of acidic samples. It is suitable for routine standardization of acids and for controlled pH modification during preparation of culture media used with organisms such as E. coli and Bacillus subtilis.

  • 1N Sodium Hydroxide
  • pH Adjustment and Titration: Adjusts pH of buffers, media, and reagents to alkaline targets using 1N Sodium Hydroxide for precise control.

  • Sterile Media Preparation: Sterile 1 mL aliquots enable aseptic pH correction of cell culture media and buffers.

  • Plasmid Miniprep (Alkaline Lysis): Denatures chromosomal DNA and proteins during lysis of Escherichia coli for plasmid extraction.

  • DNA Denaturation for Blotting: Denatures DNA in agarose gels prior to alkaline Southern blot transfer.

  • Chromatography CIP/Sanitization: Regenerates and sanitizes chromatography columns and systems; helps remove biofilm and endotoxins.

  • Equipment Decontamination: Alkaline cleaning of labware and bioprocess equipment to inactivate contaminants including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Neutralization of Acids: Neutralizes acidic samples, fractions, or waste streams prior to disposal or downstream processing.

  • Base-Catalyzed Hydrolysis: Supports saponification and other NaOH-driven hydrolysis reactions in analytical and preparative workflows.

  • Endotoxin Reduction Steps: Used in alkaline treatments to reduce endotoxin burden on surfaces and resins where compatible.
