LB Agar Plates with Animal-Free Soytone & Chlor-12.5 is a lysogeny broth agar medium prepared with animal-free peptone and yeast extract for routine cultivation of bacteria. The inclusion of 12.5 µg/mL chloramphenicol enables selection of chloramphenicol-resistant E. coli and other compatible hosts.

  • 1.69% Animal-Free Soytone
  • 0.50% Yeast Extract
  • 1.00% Sodium Chloride
  • 1.50% Agar
  • 12.5µg/mL Chloramphenicol
  • Antibiotic Selection of Transformants: Isolation of chloramphenicol-resistant colonies after transformation of E. coli or Agrobacterium tumefaciens with cat-marked plasmids (12.5 µg/mL chloramphenicol).

  • Plasmid Maintenance: Stable propagation of cat-bearing plasmids, BACs, fosmids, or cosmids in E. coli under chloramphenicol selection.

  • Colony Screening and Picking: Growth of individual recombinant colonies for downstream PCR, miniprep, or sequencing workflows.

  • Streaking for Single Colonies: Strain purification and clonal isolation of chloramphenicol-resistant bacteria (e.g., E. coli).

  • CFU Enumeration: Quantification of viable chloramphenicol-resistant cells after transformation, conjugation, or electroporation.

  • Expression Strain Maintenance: Routine culture of protein expression strains harboring cat-selectable plasmids in E. coli.

  • Agrobacterium Workflows: Selection and maintenance of cat-marked vectors in Agrobacterium tumefaciens for plant transformation pipelines.

  • Contamination Control: Suppression of chloramphenicol-sensitive contaminants while maintaining target resistant strains.

  • Library Construction and Screening: Selection of genomic or cDNA library clones carrying chloramphenicol-resistant vectors.

  • Short-Term Storage and Transport: Plate-based preservation and shipment of chloramphenicol-resistant strains.
