10% Sarkosyl Solution, Non-Sterile, is an aqueous solution of the anionic surfactant sodium lauroyl sarcosinate used in molecular biology and microbiology workflows for cell lysis, membrane disruption, protein denaturation, and nucleic acid purification. It is supplied at 10% for dilution to working concentrations in lysis and extraction buffers.

Typical applications include lysis of Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, solubilization of membrane proteins, removal of membrane lipids from cellular fractions, and detergent steps in nucleic acid isolation procedures.

  • 10% Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosine Solution
  • Cell Lysis and Membrane Disruption: Efficient lysis of bacterial (Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis), yeast, and mammalian cells for downstream nucleic acid and protein workflows.

  • Genomic DNA and RNA Extraction: Included in lysis buffers to solubilize membranes and denature proteins during phenol–chloroform or column-based purification.

  • Plasmid Preparation: Enhances bacterial lysis and helps clear lipid/membrane contaminants in alkaline lysis variants.

  • Membrane Protein Solubilization: Solubilizes and stabilizes membrane proteins prior to purification or activity assays.

  • Inclusion Body Processing and Refolding: Solubilizes aggregated proteins before refolding screens and optimization.

  • Chromatin and Nuclei Preparation: Used in lysis buffers for chromatin shearing, ChIP, and nuclei isolation.

  • Metagenomic DNA Isolation: Facilitates extraction from mixed microbial communities, including Gram-negative species like Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

  • Viral Envelope Disruption: Solubilizes envelopes to inactivate viruses and release RNA for RT-qPCR.

  • Ribonucleoprotein and Ribosome Studies: Employed to dissociate ribosomes and RNPs for footprinting or complex analysis.
